Madrid isn't popular for no reason. It's the cultural and political capital of Spain. So here are some of the top attractions that you must see in Madrid
Madrid Art
Lots of art in this great city. Besides possibly Paris, Madrid is one of the greatest places for museums. The museums in Madrid make up the Golden Art Museum Triangle. The triangle consists of
- Museo del Prado - The Prado Museum is home to Goya, Velazquez, and Greco amongst many other amazing Spanish, Dutch, German, and Italian artists.
- Reina Sofía National Museum and Art Center - The Reina Sofia is probably the second most famous museum as it houses works of Picasso, Dali, Bacon, and more
- Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum of Art - This final musem also has Picasso along with Goya, Degas, and Van Gogh.
There is also a large host of other museums that are well worth a trip if you're really into art, but these tend to take a back seat to the big three listed above. It's almost a shame that they are overshadowed by Prado and company.
Shopping
Every trendy and designer can be found in Madrid. Gucci, Prada, you name it can be found in Madrid's calles that feautre upscale shopping options.
Attractions
Palacio Real
This stunning palace was once home to royalty in Madrid, but is now just a landmark for tourists to tour. While it is touristy, it's a must see. Hundreds of pointless rooms all lavishly decorated uniquely and different then the next are a great glimpse into Spain's rich and prosperous history. It's the most stunning building I've ever seen.
Retiro Park
A park in madrid that is great for relaxing. Sprawl out and enjoy the heat during the summer months, along with the slower paced Spanish lifestyle.
Puerta del Sol
Just a great place to stroll around the streets, taking in the surroundings. Shopping, tapas bars, clubs, and pleasing sights and sounds are abundant in the Puerta del sol, which is the hub of Madrid and it's hotels and travel options.
