Madrid Nightlife - Party in Madrid

Madrid has a very vibrant and thriving nightlife scene. From clubs known as "discos" to small taverns and tapas bars, it has something for everyone.

Most of the action occurs in the Puerto del Sol part of Madrid which is the heart of the city (especially for travelers and tourists). In the Puerto del Sol you'll find everything so it's the must see area of Madrid for thriving night life. Here are some of the various options:

Tapas bars - Spaniards start their evenings very late. So at around 8 or 9 PM check out a tapas bar. A tapas bar is a bar where you can order a "tapa" which is just an apetizer type of food and you'll get a drink with it - beer (cerveza), wine, or maybe even Sangria. These tapas are a great value most times since you get the drink and food all together. See Madrid Dining Guide for more. These are all over the place and they're very easy to find once you're in he puerta del sol.

Discos - Discos are the typical clubs in the US. They offer dimmer lights, dance music, dancing, and everything else. There are almost always cover charges or mandatory drinks which can get up to $10 USD at the major discos. The drinks are a bit spendy as well, but for the amazing environment and chic clubs the money is well spent in Madrid.

So What to drink in Madrid?

Madrenos drink, and quite a bit. Madrid loves their wine, sangria, and beer. For beer, local brands I recommend include San Miguel and Cruzcampo.
